Our top Emerald Isle rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Beaufort, NC vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to select the perfect vacation rental in the Beaufort, NC area:

  • Start by having your family commit to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Second row, ocean view duplex w\/ easy beach access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is optimal for your group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's a particular Beaufort, NC attraction you are crazy about, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

Tips for a great stay:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
