Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Summertime is high season in New Bern. To find the largest rental within budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Beaufort, NC attractions and restaurants.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation home in the Beaufort, NC area:

  • Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Bearplex of New Bern featuring king-size bed has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
