Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer time is high season in the Beaufort, NC area. Reserve your Beaufort, NC rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Emersands, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
