The Beaufort Pirate Invasion is one of coastal North Carolina’s most popular history-themed festivals, transforming the waterfront town of Beaufort into a lively seaport filled with pirates, soldiers, merchants, and colonial-era characters. Held annually in downtown Beaufort, the event celebrates the town’s rich maritime heritage and commemorates the historic Spanish attack on Beaufort in 1747, as well as the region’s connections to the legendary pirate Blackbeard and other seafaring figures.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can experience dramatic battle reenactments, cannon demonstrations, pirate encampments, living-history exhibits, and interactive performances that bring the 18th century to life. Costumed reenactors roam the streets and waterfront, while vendors, food trucks, musicians, storytellers, and artisans create a festive atmosphere for all ages.
A centerpiece of the event is the reenactment of the Spanish Pirate Attack of 1747, featuring mock battles by land and sea, cannon fire, and a spirited defense of the town. Additional activities often include pirate-themed entertainment, sword-fighting demonstrations, family-friendly games, live music, and special evening events.
Founded in 1960, the Beaufort Pirate Invasion has grown into a beloved tradition that blends history, education, and entertainment while showcasing Beaufort’s unique coastal culture and maritime legacy.
