Don’t let the warehouse-style exterior and a secretive location in the midst of inland Beaufort sway you from visiting The Spot. This famed hamburger joint has been a local favorite since first opening in 1950, and features some of the best hand-crafted burgers and sandwiches around. Garnering a longtime-visitor following, the “secret” Spot is on the verge of becoming a famed Beaufort landmark.
The interior and the menu itself is simple enough, with a collection of breakfast sandwiches in the morning, and burgers, sandwiches and other casual entrees, (like flounder and shrimp baskets), during lunch. Visitors can sit at one of the simple wooden booths, or grab a sandwich to go as needed, and that’s when the good eats begin. The Spot is known for working with local watermen on a regular basis, with seafood specialties like shrimp burgers and fish only available when in season and locally available. The burgers are juicy and delicious, while the hot dogs, which can be piled high with chili, bacon, and onions, will satisfy any appetite. Diners will want to especially look for in-season specials, like softshell crab sandwiches, which make occasional appearances on the menu and are local favorites.
Completely fresh, The Spot is a true taste of Down East living in the heart of Beaufort.
