Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Beaufort, NC area. Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking the perfectrental:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Beachwalk 116, Oceanfront Condo in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Beaufort, NC rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
