Strategies for getting the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

Find your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your Beaufort, NC vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Charming, warm & tranquil historic downtown New Bern home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your group.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

During your stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
