Rental property booking tips:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain deals for local tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing your prefectrental home:

  • Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Large 3 bedroom townhome with cable and internet has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
