Tips and Tricks for getting the best New Bern rental experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in New Bern. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

How to select the perfect rental home:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Waterfront 3 bedroom dog-friendly cottage with a million-dollar view has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Beaufort, NC rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
