Rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in New Bern. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Beaufort, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 3BR/3BA Updated Townhome on the Marina — 3 decks and great sunsets! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a certain Beaufort, NC attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking

Advice for a great stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
