Finding the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Beaufort, NC area. To find the best value, shift your family's Beaufort, NC vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your family select date ranges and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Family & Pet Friendly Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
