Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- First, have your family choose date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. The High Tide Hideaway- Direct Sound front , pool, steps to beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
