Tips and Tricks for getting the best New Bern rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Beaufort, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental in the Beaufort, NC area:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beautiful 2 bedroom condo on lake has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
