Walk to the riverfront, Tryon Palace and historic downtown and its many eateries, bars, stores, and galleries. Unwind on the screen porch. Cruise or kayak the Neuse and Trent Rivers. Take a short 45-min. drive to Beaufort, Oriental, and the handsome Crystal Coast beaches.

Our top New Bern rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer time is high season in New Bern. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Circa 1810 Home - Downtown New Bern Historic District - 2 BRs with King Beds has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
