Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your Beaufort, NC vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Beaufort, NC area travel guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, NC area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First, have your family commit to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Peaceful 3BR/2.5BA home, easy walk/bike to beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's a particular Beaufort, NC attraction you are enamored with, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
