Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Beaufort, NC area. To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Beaufort, NC area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Choose dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Remodeled coastal style townhouse with ocean view, beach access, and pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
