How to Book a Vacation Home

We have developed a short guide to assist you in getting most from your vacation property experience.

Searching for and booking the best rental property:

Do you think "Oceanside Condo with family friendly amenities!" is the best vacation property for your next visit? Browse through this checklist to confirm it fits your preferences.

The Earlier, The Better

Beaufort, NC rental properties start booking early. To find the best selection, begin your planning and search Six-Twelve months prior to a trip. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental home..

Select a Community and Date

Oftentimes, the most challenging part of organizing your trip is figuring out where to search, and when. Once the big decisions are resolved, everything else is simpler.

How Much Vacation rental Do You Need?

Take a head count. How many beds and bedrooms will you need? Remember that a lot of rental homes list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in the living area. You'll need to determine what is most appropriate for the family. Precise descriptions of bedrooms and beds are commonly accessible on the internet. If not, communicate with the property manager before you reserve the home.

What Are You Willing to Spend?

The majority of rentals are advertised with a price range. Confirm the cost for your desired stay. It may be at the top end of the range. If a few groups or relatives are sharing the cost, confirm that each person knows their obligations and has approved a maximum they are prepared to pay. One individual in your family needs to be given the task of getting repayments and accepting responsibility for the whole rental price at time of booking.

Its All About Amenities

What amenities is your family looking for? Do you want a vacation property with patio kitchen? Do you wish to be far from the crowds, or close to civilization? Are items like beach chairs, grills, umbrellas, carts or coolers available and included in your rental home charge? Gather a list of prioritized "needs and preferences" from your party to help narrow your search to the most suitable home.

Special Conditions

Elderly family members will appreciate you for not renting a stairs-only condo on the Third floor. If wheel chair entry, elevators, pool lifts or other specialized devices are necessary, factor that into your search. Almost all rental home listings will include a list of amenities.

Have You Considered Furry Family Members?

Remember to include your pets. Animals are welcome at a number of rentals, but guidelines differ. Type of pet, size and breeds might be controlled. Make sure that you study agreements and contracts carefully. Extra charges may apply when animals are added.

It Is Time to Search

After the place, dates and family members are decided, search multiple sources for the best vacation rental selection. In combination with Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we suggest searching Google for "Beaufort, NC local vacation rentals" for local vacation rental management companies. Local agencies will have a unique assortment of vacation homes daily and weekly.

Negotiate the Price

Re-read the description to ensure the rental has everything that you need. If lacking, the property management company might know of comparable homes that suit your preferences and budget..

Although not true for all rental homes, many rental owners and property managers will make a deal on rates. If the price isn't negotiable, the number of nights might be. The off-season offers your best chance to negotiate a lower rate.

Study The Agreement

Find out which of the following is included in your quoted rate:

  • Power bills
  • Internet Connectivity
  • Telephone service
  • Hot Tub Heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Housekeeping
  • Trash Pickup (and which day?)
  • Maintenance policies
  • Check in & Check Out Key Exchange
  • Parking Fees

Get a total that includes state taxes, pet and other additional fees.

Cancellation Policies

Ensure that you be aware of the cancellation policy prior to booking. Vacation rental management companies and home owners commonly offer their guests the option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance protects the renter against emergencies and weather events, It gives peace of mind should catastrophe strike.

Complete the Booking

When everything seems right, it's finally time to sign a rental agreement. Keep in mind that most rental agreements will require a considerable rental down payment and/or security deposit to safeguard the rental owner.

Keep Your Property Manager's Info

Put the rental manager's contact info into your smart phone and wallet for easy access to answers throughout your visit.

Congrats! All that is left is making the most of your visit!

During your Stay

  • Photograph at your arrival. To make certain no damages are attributed to your visit, create a record of any problem areas of the rental. We also suggest immediately getting in touch with the rental manager with a report of any wear and tear, together with your request for any required fixes. This can protect against disagreements during check out.
  • You could need instructions for a gas fireplace, TV or jacuzzi. Get in touch with your property manager. They are there to assist. A brief phone call avoids many hassles.
  • Don't forget to be a good next-door neighbor. Natives will be as friendly to you as you are respectful of them. Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by vacationers next to your residence.
  • Ask a local. Natives are a good source of advice. Who better to ask where to get the best chicken wings, have a great date night, or the best places for shopping?
  • Enjoy your stay! Be sure to protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the vacation rental locked up when you are away, just like you would in your own home.

Checking Out

  • Check to make sure you've packed all your possessions. Sweep every room in the house for left-behind items. Inspect bath rooms, the garage, kitchen cabinets, patios, the swimming pool area, and anywhere else your gear might "hide".
  • Make a point to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. When possible, do this walk-out assessment with the property owner present. If the property manager is not available, make certain you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you enjoy your vacation rental? Just about all property management companies and rental search sites allow customers to offer feedback. If the rental and/or property manager was excellent, they will appreciate your positive reviews. If anything was wrong and they did not fix it in a reasonable manner, or when the property wasn't as described, you will want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
