Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Beaufort, NC trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Beaufort, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many property management companies supply Beaufort, NC area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Beaufort, NC visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and choose the rightvacation home:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. SINGLE Family Ocean Front - Howard's Hideaway has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • If there's an individual Beaufort, NC destination you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
